Jury sides with patient in $1.3M dental surgery case

A seven-person jury found that Bernardsville, N.J.-based dentist Frank Ricker, DMD, was negligent and improperly drilled through the bone underneath a patient's molar, according to the New Jersey Hill.

Kathleen Seergy visited Dr. Ricker to undergo a tooth extraction. What was supposed to be a one-hour procedure, spanned four hours and left the patient with nerve damage. Ms. Seergy claims that root fragments were left in the area of the extraction.

After the procedure by Dr. Ricker, Ms. Seergy went to have nerve-regeneration surgery. However, she claims that she still suffers from permanent pain, numbness, tingling and loss of sensation.

For Dr. Ricker's negligence, the jury awarded Ms. Seergy $1.3 million.
