A Salinas, Calif.-based dentist is expected to plead no contest to charges of possessing child pornography and an illegal assault weapon, according to the Monterey County District Attorney and cited by The Californian.
In January 2016, law enforcement raided the home and dental office of Gary Klugman, DDS. During the raid, investigators seized a desktop computer, a 16- and 64-GB memory stick, a box of video tapes, an external hard drive, a MacBook laptop and a Sony laptop. Police said all items seized contained child pornography.
Additionally, law enforcement discovered Dr. Klugman was in possession of 35 firearms. After requiring him to surrender all firearms, police discovered one had an illegally threaded barrel.
By pleading no contest to the charges, Dr. Klugman is likely to receive a suspended prison sentence of five years; he will be placed on a grant of felony probation for each charge. He also faces up to a year in Monterey County Jail and will be ordered to register as a sex offender.
Dr. Klugman's sentencing is scheduled for May 9.
