Dental offices see biggest healthcare job losses

Healthcare employment declined by 1.4 million in April, led by losses in dental offices, with 503,000 related unemployment claims filed in the last month, according to a May 8 report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Within ambulatory healthcare services, losses were highest at dentist offices, physician offices and offices of other healthcare practitioners.

Nationally, a total of 20.5 million jobs were lost in April. The national unemployment rate reached 14.7 percent, a jump from February, when the unemployment rate was 3.5 percent, according to The New York Times.
