Florida dentist Tara Griffin, DMD, has implemented a long list of infection control procedures since her Panama City Beach-based practice reopened its doors for nonemergency care May 11, according to local ABC affiliate WMBB-TV.
To reduce the possibility of COVID-19 transmission and calm the nerves of patients and staff, Emerald Coast Dental Spa implemented ozone therapy to purify the facility's air and water. Dr. Griffin told WMBB-TV she also began using a system in patients' mouths to lessen aerosol transmission.
The staff now wears masks, face shields, gloves and protective gowns at all times. They also sanitize all equipment, require patients to wait outside before their appointment, deliver COVID-19 screening questions to patients and take everyone's temperature before they enter the practice.
Dr. Griffin also introduced a therapy dog to Emerald Coast Dental Spa to help keep patients calm during their procedures.
"Fear is the worst virus you could ever have and everyone is fearful with what's happening right now," Dr. Griffin told WMBB-TV.
