Prominent Texas oral surgeon retires after 40 years of clinical practice

B.D. Tiner, DDS, MD, will retire May 1 from San Antonio, Texas-based Alamo Maxillofacial Surgical Associates after 40 years of clinical practice.

Dr. Tiner, a retired U.S. Navy captain, is active across many dental organizations, including the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, where he serves as president, and the Southwest Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, where he is member and past president. He is also an adjunct clinical professor in the department of OMS surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.

"Treating patients has been my passion and my calling, but I turned 70 last October and after spending five or more days a week working the past 40 years, I'm ready to spend more time with my family, checking items off my bucket list with my wonderful wife, Brenda," Dr. Tinder said, adding that the most satisfying part of the job has been making a difference in the lives of hundreds of patients through orthognathic surgery. "The past 40 years have truly been a great ride, but it's time to hang up my spurs."

"Dr. Tiner is one of the best oral surgeons I know," said Richard Hall, president and CEO of U.S. Oral Surgery Management. "The retirement of a great leader is always a little bittersweet — we're sad to see him go, but we also rejoice with him because this is what he wants."

Alamo Maxillofacial Surgical Associates is a partner practice of Irving, Texas-based U.S. Oral Surgery Management.
