Kansas dentist denied bail change, practice in limbo

A motion to modify bond for Brian Newell, DDS, has been denied after the dentist was arrested on two felony and two misdemeanor charges, reports WIBW-TV.

The 48-year-old dentist was arrested April 19 and charged with violation of a protection order, criminal use of weapons, criminal threat and harassment by telecom device. A motion to modify his bond, which is set at $100,000, was denied. A preliminary hearing has been set for July 2.

Dr. Newell works at Topeka, Kan.-based Family & Implant Dental. Immediately after his arrest, a message was taped to the center's front door saying the practice was closed and staff are "unaware when or if they will be reopening," reports KSNT.
