Georgia orthodontist dies of COVID-19

A 67-year-old orthodontist from Canton, Ga., died Aug. 7 from COVID-19, 11Alive.com reported Aug. 11.

Chris Jernigan, DMD, began feeling symptoms of COVID-19, including body aches, drowsiness and a dry cough, according to his son. As the symptoms worsened, he had to be put on a ventilator at a local hospital, where he later died.

Dr. Jernigan earned his dental degree at Augusta University’s Dental College of Georgia. He obtained a master’s degree in orthodontics from Saint Louis University in Missouri. He was a member of the American Dental Association, Georgia Dental Association, Southern Association of Orthodontists and the American Association of Orthodontics.
