Below are the top three most-read Becker's Dental + DSO Review stories for the week ending March 18.

1. 2 Texas dentists die after dental office shooting; suspect charged with murder: A Texas man has been charged with murder and assault with a deadly weapon in the March 16 shooting of two dentists who worked in a Texas dental office. Both dentists, Blake Sinclair, DDS, 59, of Tyler and Jack Burroughs, DDS, 75, of Tyler have died, according to the sheriff's office. The suspect, Steven Alexander Smith, 40, is being held on $3 million bond.

2. Wisconsin dentist found guilty of intentionally damaging patients' teeth: 8 notes: Scott Charmoli, DDS, was found guilty of intentionally damaging patients' teeth before placing a crown to get insurance coverage. Dr. Charmoli, who practiced in Jackson, Wis., was charged with eight counts of healthcare fraud and two counts of making false statements related to healthcare in December 2020. He was found guilty on seven counts and faces up to 20 years in prison. Dr. Charmoli's dental license was suspended in February 2021.

3. Fewer dentists own practices, ADA says: The percentage of dentists who own their practices fell to 73 percent in 2021 from 84.7 percent in 2005, according to the American Dental Association. The number of dentist-owners and solo practices is falling, while the number of practices owned by DSOs is rising.
