Prominent oral surgeon to retire after 42 years in practice

Wendell Edgin, DDS, who served as president of several dental organizations and formerly served as a consultant to the U.S. surgeon general, is retiring after 42 years of practice. 

Dr. Edgin will retire from Alamo Maxillofacial Surgical Associates in San Antonio on May 1. The practice is an affiliate of Irving, Texas-based U.S. Oral Surgery Management.

Dr. Edgin served in the U.S. Air Force for 21 years, serving as chair and director of the graduate oral and maxillofacial surgery program at Wilford Hall U.S. Air Force Medical Center, now the Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center in San Antonio. He was also the OMS consultant to the surgeon general, USOSM said April 28.

He is a diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, a member of the USOSM Clinical Governance Board, a life fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and a fellow of the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists. Additionally, he is a past president of the San Antonio District Dental Society, the Texas Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the Southwest Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
