The University of California Los Angeles School of Dentistry's community-based clinical education program received a gift of $1.67 million to fund its expansion.
The funding will be used to launch the UCLA Dentistry MINDFUL Project, according to a Sept. 7 post on the university's website. The initiative will aim to increase the care available to underserved populations living in long-term care facilities, improve oral health literacy among those communities and increase research concerning barriers to accessing care.
The donation was made by the Delta Dental Community Care Foundation and is the largest gift the organization has made to a dental school, according to the post.
The project will serve an estimated 6,500 patients during its three-year funding cycle.
