The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry received a $1.5 million grant to provide care to underserved populations.
The funds will be used to train and educate dental students on the best ways to deliver more dental care to individuals with medically complex or behavioral healthcare needs, according to an Oct. 20 news release from the university.
The project will also establish a mentoring program for pre-dental students in rural areas of Alabama.
The grant is from the Health Resources and Services Administration and will be distributed over five years, the release said.
