Here are four recent updates on specialty dentistry:
1. Although the entire dental industry has seen an increase in the number of dentists, pediatric dentistry has seen more growth than every other specialty in the field, according to TUSK Practice Sales’ Q4 2026 Dental Market Report.
2. A clinician’s training and competency may matter more to pediatric anesthesia safety than whether a separate anesthesia provider is present during office-based procedures, according to a new analysis published in the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
3. The FDA published a consumer webpage with updated guidance on clear aligners. The webpage explains the benefits, risks and appropriate use of clear aligners, including the importance of an in-person examination before treatment and ongoing supervision by a licensed practitioner during treatment.
4. The American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine sent a letter to the FDA Oct. 20 highlighting its concerns with consumer protection for oral appliances used in treating snoring and obstructive sleep apnea.
