Illinois governor approves changes to Dental Practice Act: 5 notes

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker recently signed legislation that updates and makes changes to the Dental Practice Act, according to an Aug. 11 news release from the Illinois State Dental Society.

Here are five notes on the changes to the act:

1. Updated and clarified current provisions to fix an oversight in the workforce legislation that was passed last spring.

2. A holder of a faculty limited license is now allowed to advertise their specialty degree as part of their qualifications and ability to practice at a dental facility. 

3. A licensed dentist or dental hygienist who is a service member can now apply to receive licensure in the state through credentialing.

4. Providers of continuing education must disclose that the course is approved for continuing education in the state. 

5. Clarifies the provisions that deal with patient records when a dental practice closes.
