10 cities where dentists' salaries go the furthest

Dentists earn an average annual salary of $172,290, according to compensation data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. 

In some U.S. cities, a $100,000 salary could be worth as much as $86,444 and as little as $35,791 after income taxes and living expenses, according to an Aug. 18 report by CNBC.

The report utilizes SmartAssest's paycheck calculator to determine the average take-home pay across the 76 largest cities in the U.S. after adjusting to reflect the cost of living and deducting local, state and federal taxes.  

Here are the 10 cities where a $100,000 salary stretches the furthest:

1. Memphis, Tenn.: $86,444

2. El Paso, Texas: $84,966 

3. Oklahoma City: $84,948 

4. Corpus Christi, Texas: $83,443

5. Lubbock, Texas: $83,350 

6. Houston: $81,350 

7. San Antonio: $80,124 

8. Fort Worth, Texas: $80,124 

9. Arlington, Texas: $80,124 

10. St. Louis: $79,921
