Police said scammers have been spoofing the police department’s number and calling dental offices, telling dentists that they have been subpoenaed and owe money for court fines. The scammers then tell the dentists that they can be arrested if they fail to pay the fines immediately over the phone.

Police said the department does not issue subpoenas or fines associated with subpoenas and will not threaten people with arrest for unpaid fines.
