Rhode Island woman ordered to stop practicing unlicensed dentistry

The Rhode Island State Department of Health issued a cease and desist order to Waleska Melgar to stop practicing dentistry in the state without a license.

Ms. Waleska provided dental services from a residence in Central Falls, R.I. without a license, according to the order filed Jan. 12.

One patient reported that Ms. Waleska attempted and failed to extract a tooth on them and also installed full orthodontic braces.

During an investigation, the health department learned that Ms. Waleska advertised dental services and received monetary consideration for the services.

The order is effective immediately and will remain in effect until further notice, the order said.
