A new norm arises as solo dentists decline

The dental industry has seen an increase in group practices and DSOs as the number of solo dentists has declined, according to a recent report from the Association of DSOs.

ADSO released a report detailing key trends in the dental industry for 2024, including workforce shortages, diversity and changes in practice types.

The report found that the majority of dentists now work in a group practice, with only 36% of dentists working at a solo practice. Thirteen percent of dentists are now affiliated with a DSO.

ADSO also noted that DSO affiliation was most common among early career dentists and female dentists in 2023.
