Georgia Southern University gets state funding boost for new dental school

Statesboro-based Georgia Southern University was granted state funding to build a dental school, The Atlanta-Journal Constitution reported Feb. 29.

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp signed House Bill 915, which added nearly $5.5 billion in spending for the remaining three months of the state's current budget. The money will cover various needs throughout the state, including the new dental school.

In January, Gov. Kemp proposed putting $178 million toward construction of a dental school at the university to alleviate the state's healthcare workforce shortages.

Georgia State University will receive that amount for its dental school, according to the legislation.
