Connecticut dentist sentenced after not paying taxes for 7 years

Paul Hanna, DMD, the owner of a dental practice in New London, Conn., was sentenced to 10 months in prison for tax evasion.

From 2010 to 2012, Dr. Hanna filed a tax form for himself and his wife, but never paid the tax due and owing and was subject to collections enforcement from the IRS from 2012 to 2017, according to a March 6 Justice Department news release.

He earned approximately $1.6 million in taxable income from his work as a dentist and from rental income between 2013 and 2020 but did not file a tax return in any of those years.

In addition to the imprisonment, Dr. Hanna is required to pay $244,541 in restitution and serve three years of supervised release, the release said.

He pleaded guilty to tax evasion in July.
