7 dental lawsuit settlements totaling $120M+

Here are seven dental industry settlements Becker’s has reported on this year totaling more than $120 million:

1. The Aspen Group agreed to settle a class-action lawsuit, filed in response to an April 2023 data breach, for $4.4 million.

2. Dental supply company Dentsply Sirona agreed to pay $84 million to settle allegations that it misled investors about financial reporting and anti-competitive practices.

3. Nazneen Jaffri, DDS, agreed to reimburse the state’s Medicaid program $150,000 to resolve allegations that she violated the False Claims Act.

4. A Connecticut dental practice agreed to pay $495,721 to settle allegations that it violated the False Claims Act.

5. Align Technology agreed to pay $31 million to settle allegations that it engaged in anticompetitive conduct that drove up the prices of SmileDirectClub aligners.

6. A pediatric dental surgery center in Tulare, Calif., agreed to a class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims that it failed to protect patient data.

7. A dental practice in Indianapolis agreed to pay $350,000 to settle a lawsuit brought by the state following a ransomware attack and unauthorized access to patient information.
