In an Aug. 17 post for the American Dental Association’s New Dentist Now blog, Sheila Soroushian, DMD, shared the following tips for new dentists to combat burnout:
- Revisit the reasons you initially wanted to enter the field.
- Expand your network by involving yourself with a local dental society or joining the state dental board.
- Share your industry knowledge by teaching at a dental school or instructing a hygiene or assisting program.
- Consider sharpening your skills by joining a mentoring group, study club or continuing education program.
- Take volunteer positions to help patients without dental care access.
- Assess the efficiency of your practice’s processes and the quality of its systems.
- Try moving to another sector of the dental industry, such as academia or community health center management.
