The ADA sent a letter Dec. 19 to Rep. Frederica Wilson, D-Fla., thanking her for her work on HR 8872, the Lowering Obstacles to Achievement Now Act. In the letter, ADA President George Shepley, DDS, and Executive Director Raymond Cohlmia, DDS, said they appreciated that the act would give graduate students access to subsidized loans and those that would lower interest rates on federal loans.
In a Dec. 20 news release, the ADA also asked Congress to consider several other legislative packages, including the Resident Education Deferred Interest Act, the Student Loan Interest Deduction Act, the Indian Health Service Health Professions Tax Fairness Act, the Dental Loan Repayment Assistance Act and the HIV Epidemic Loan-Repayment Program Act.
