Alabama dental board executive director resigns amid noncompliance scrutiny

Blake Strickland, executive director of the Alabama Board of Dental Examiners, has resigned, according to a Dec. 8 report from the Alabama Daily News.

The board recently has come under scrutiny for its noncompliance with state statutes. A recent audit found that the board often acted outside of its authority, including waiving fees it was not allowed to and not properly documenting meetings.

In August, multiple dentists in the state called out the board for its actions, with one dentist calling the board’s conduct “predatory” and “secretive.”

Melodie Jones, the board’s president, said Mr. Strickland’s resignation did not come as a surprise to the board.

The Alabama dental board will shift its focus to naming an interim executive director and finding a long-term replacement for the position. Ms. Jones estimated the process will take 60 to 90 days, the report said.

At the Becker's 5th Annual Future of Dentistry Roundtable, taking place September 14-15 in Chicago, dental leaders and executives will gain insights into emerging technologies, practice growth strategies and the evolving landscape of dental care delivery, with a focus on innovation, patient experience and operational excellence.
