A dentist in Soldotna, Alaska, was recently charged with submitting nearly $84,000 in fraudulent Medicaid claims.
Joseph Mirci, DDS, allegedly submitted approximately $83,986 in fraudulent Medicaid claims for dental services that were not provided, were not medically necessary, were unsupported by patient records or were billed at a higher level than performed. These actions allegedly took place between January 2021 and September 2025, according to a news release from the Alaska Department of Law.
Dr. Mirci was charged with scheme to defraud, theft in the first degree and 19 counts of medical assistance fraud.
Dr. Mirci was among 15 individuals and businesses charged in five separate cases in the state, totaling more than $1.8 million in alleged Medicaid fraud. The charges are part of the 2026 National Health Care Fraud Takedown, which resulted in charges against 455 defendants involving more than $6.5 billion in false claims nationwide. Of those 455 defendants, 90 are doctors and other licensed medical professionals.
