Bangor (Maine) Children’s Dentistry recently purchased a dental clinic in Rumford, which was slated for closure due to staffing shortages, the Sun Journal reported Dec. 8.

Community Dental, which has six locations in the state, announced in September it would close its Rumford and Monson offices in the fall after being unable to fill vacant positions due to workforce shortages. The Rumford clinic, which opened in 2008, had been without a dentist since November 2021, Fox 23 Maine reported Sept. 23.

The office staying open will preserve access to dental care, especially for patients with limited resources, according to Kathleen O’Donnell, board president of Community Dental.

The new practice, which will operate as Rumford Children’s Dentistry, will open in December. It will be joined by several staff members of the previous practice, Kate Hopkins, RN, CEO of Community Dental, said.

At the Becker's 5th Annual Future of Dentistry Roundtable, taking place September 14-15 in Chicago, dental leaders and executives will gain insights into emerging technologies, practice growth strategies and the evolving landscape of dental care delivery, with a focus on innovation, patient experience and operational excellence.
