California nonprofit Sonrisas Dental Health suffered a cyber extortion incident affecting 15,644 individuals.
The nonprofit said that on March 4 it became aware of unusual activity in its digital environment. An investigation determined that an unauthorized actor potentially acquired certain data within its systems.
The potentially affected information may include names, driver’s license numbers, Social Security numbers, dates of birth and protected health information.
The organization submitted the incident to the HHS Department’s Office for Civil Rights Breach Portal May 2.
