California dentist avoids prison time for drug-related charges

A California dentist was recently sentenced to one year of federal supervised release for providing drug dealers with prescriptions for opiate painkillers in exchange for cocaine, The Mercury News reported Dec. 1.

Alireza Moheb, DMD, was charged with distributing a controlled substance and conspiracy to acquire prescription pills by fraud in 2021. He pleaded guilty to one count of federal drug conspiracy. 

Prosecutors agreed to a lenient sentencing because of Dr. Moheb’s struggle with addiction.
