A pediatric dentist in Pueblo, Colo., has been placed on probation for at least 12 months after admitting to infection control violations at her practice, KRDO reported Oct. 28.

The Colorado Dental Board’s order against Olga Jasina, DDS, of Pueblo Pediatric Dentistry took effect Oct. 8, replacing a March agreement in which she voluntarily stopped practicing while the state investigated.

An unannounced follow-up inspection in August found several areas of non-compliance, including expired disinfecting wipes in use, biohazard waste collected only annually and missing documentation of radiographic training.

Dr. Jasina must correct the deficiencies within 30 days and report her fixes to the board. She and her staff must also complete an OSHA training course within 60 days. A board-appointed consultant will then conduct a random, unannounced inspection at her expense, and the office must repeat the training and inspection until it passes.

Dr. Jasina’s probation will continue until she satisfies all requirements set by the board, and she must request termination of the probation in writing.
