Two dentists in Connecticut entered into civil settlement agreements to resolve allegations that they violated state and federal False Claims Acts.

Ivan Makar, DDS, and Oleg Losin, DDS, the owners of two now dissolved dental practices in Connecticut, were accused of submitting kickback-tainted claims to the Connecticut Medical Assistance Program, according to a Nov. 19 news release from the Justice Department.

Dent Plus Family Dentistry and L&M Family Dentistry paid a patient recruiter for each Connecticut Medicaid patient the recruiter referred to the practices, according to federal prosecutors.

Dr. Makar and Dr. Losin paid $714,446 to reimburse the Medicaid program.

The providers and the practices did not admit liability by entering into the settlement agreement, the release said.

At the Becker's 5th Annual Future of Dentistry Roundtable, taking place September 14-15 in Chicago, dental leaders and executives will gain insights into emerging technologies, practice growth strategies and the evolving landscape of dental care delivery, with a focus on innovation, patient experience and operational excellence.
