Dental school debt surged to $285K in 2018

About 80 percent of dental students took on debt in 2018; and the average debt total exceeded that of medical students, according to a Nerd Wallet blog post.

The average dental student loan balance was $285,184 in 2018. For medical students, the average loan balance was $190,694. Students with bachelor’s degrees had $28,650 in average debt.

For dental students, the repayment program would be more than $3,300 per month for 10 years if the interest rate was 7 percent.
