Helen Yoo Bowne, MD, is a head and neck surgeon at Philadelphia-based Cancer Treatment Centers of America. She told the radio station that the most common types of these cancers are in the mouth, on the tongue and on lips.
In recent years, the number of HPV-related oral cancers has increased. Specifically, more patients between the ages of 50 and 60 are being diagnosed with oral HPV cancers.
Dentists can diagnose and identify these cancers upon routine visits.
