Florida dental board revokes dentist’s license after patient death

The Florida Board of Dentistry voted unanimously Nov. 6 to revoke the license of Francesco Sebastiani, DMD, after a patient died following a 2023 dental implant procedure, First Coast News reported.

The Florida Department of Health alleged Dr. Sebastiani fell below the standard of care, performed the surgery in a dental office rather than a hospital and failed to adequately monitor the patient or respond appropriately to her medical emergency. The board’s decision rejected an administrative law judge’s recommendation to dismiss the complaint.

The board denied a request from Dr. Sebastiani’s attorney to stay the decision. Once the final written order is filed, he cannot practice dentistry unless an appeals court issues a stay. Dr. Sebastiani disagreed with the board’s findings, and said he plans to appeal the board’s decision.

Two other administrative complaints against Dr. Sebastiani are still pending following the death of another patient in 2025. A medical examiner ruled that death accidental, and Dr. Sebastiani was not criminally charged.
