Dr. Al-Madani was convicted of 18 charges last year. He was charged along with the hospital’s former COO Edward Hills, DDS, and two fellow dentists.
The four plotted to execute a series of schemes that involved the hospital’s department of oral health and dentistry, starting in 2008. Dr. Al-Madani was found to have bribed Dr. Hills in exchange for bonuses and referrals of all Medicaid patients to his private clinics.
Dr. Al-Madani also solicited $75,000 in bribes from perspective overseas residents who sought acceptance into the hospital’s dental residency program.
In a sentencing memo, Dr. Al-Madani’s lawyers wrote that the dentist paid bribes to Dr. Hills out of fear.
Dr. Al-Madani is a citizen of Jordan. He faces the possibility of deportation after he serves his sentence.
