A dentist and dental practice employee in Chicago have been charged with defrauding Illinois out of more than $100,000 in Medicaid funds.
Between January 2018 and November 2024, Blanca Murillo, DDS, owner of Blanca Murillo DDS, was paid more than $100,000 in claims for dental services that were never provided, according to a June 10 news release from the Office of the Illinois Attorney General.
The investigation revealed that Jose Luis Carrillo Ibarra, who worked for Dr. Murillo, was not a licensed dentist in the state of Illinois. Dr. Murillo allegedly was aware of the fact that Mr. Carrillo Ibarra was not licensed to practice, but still paid him to provide dental care at the practice and billed Medicaid for those services.
Dr. Murillo also owned a second dental practice in Chicago while the fraudulent claims were being submitted.
Both Dr. Murillo and Mr. Carrillo Ibarra were charged with two counts of theft of government property, two counts of theft, one count of vendor fraud and one count of conspiracy, the release said. They were both arraigned on June 16 and their next court date is July 29.
