Michael Egan, DDS, owned and operated a dental practice in Tinley Park, Ill. He fraudulently obtained $1.2 million in medical care loans for dental work that was never performed, according to a Nov. 2 news release.

He was charged in January with one count of wire fraud for the scheme, in which he submitted fraudulent applications for loans to finance patient dental care in 2015 and 2016 that he knowingly did not perform.

Dr. Egan paid a portion of the loan proceeds to the purported dental patients and to recruiters who identified the patients for applications.
