Carterville, Ill.-based Shawnee Health will open a pediatric dental center in Marion, Ill., on Sept. 1, the only facility in Southern Illinois that accepts Medicaid for pediatric dental care, KBSI reported Aug. 21.

The Children’s Dental Center, funded by a $2.5 million award from the Illinois Children’s Healthcare Foundation, replaces the FQHC’s former general dentistry clinic with a renovated pediatric facility featuring two dedicated treatment suites. It will serve children from birth through age 21, including those requiring treatment under general anesthesia.

Nearly 200 children are currently on a waitlist for specialized dental care in the region. The center is expected to serve hundreds of children each month across Shawnee Health’s 19-county service area.

At the Becker's 5th Annual Future of Dentistry Roundtable, taking place September 14-15 in Chicago, dental leaders and executives will gain insights into emerging technologies, practice growth strategies and the evolving landscape of dental care delivery, with a focus on innovation, patient experience and operational excellence.
