The Iowa Dental Board recently ordered a dentist to undergo remedial training after allegedly practicing dentistry in a manner harmful to the public, the Iowa Capital Dispatch reported May 14.

The dental board charged Terra Hickey, DDS, with a number of failures, including failing to diagnose cavities in multiple patients, failing to complete a thorough removal of decay, failing to properly place restorations and failing to adequately inform patients of their diagnosis and treatment plans.

The dentist and board agreed to settle the case with several requirements. Dr. Hickey must complete a remedial education program as well as a board-approved ethics course. She must also pay $1,200, and her license was placed on probation for one year.

At the Becker's 5th Annual Future of Dentistry Roundtable, taking place September 14-15 in Chicago, dental leaders and executives will gain insights into emerging technologies, practice growth strategies and the evolving landscape of dental care delivery, with a focus on innovation, patient experience and operational excellence.
