The Iowa Dental Board recently reinstated the license of a dentist previously convicted of drug and weapons charges, the Iowa Capital Dispatch reported June 4.
Shawn Michael Kerby, DDS, was sentenced to 20 months in prison in 2018 for obtaining opioids through patient prescriptions and unlawfully using drugs while in possession of firearms.
Dr. Kerby voluntarily surrendered his dental license shortly after beginning his prison sentence. The board reinstated his license subject to five years of probation after Dr. Kebry was released from prison in November 2020. The board recently agreed to terminate the probation agreement early, fully restoring Dr. Kerby’s license.
