The Iowa Dental Board recently reinstated the license of Paymun Bayati, DDS, the Iowa Capital Dispatch reported Dec. 24.

Dr. Bayati was convicted in April 2024 of being intoxicated while performing dental work. He later agreed to surrender his license for at least one year.

Dr. Bayati maintained that he became intoxicated after someone allegedly tampered with his drink. While seeking early license reinstatement from the board in December 2024, Dr. Bayati provided a substance abuse evaluation that did not recommend treatment. It also did not include a diagnosis of alcohol use disorder.

The board agreed to reinstate Dr. Bayati’s license last month. As part of the reinstatement, he must either enroll in the Iowa Professional Health Program or undergo three years of substance monitoring by the board.
