Blue Hill (Maine) Peninsula Dental will close Dec. 17, due to “circumstances beyond the practice’s control,” according to an Oct. 30 report from Bangor Daily News.
The practice has been open for about 30 years. Mike Gillins, DMD, the current owner of the practice, took over in November 2020 from Juan Aponte, DDS.
Blue Hill Peninsula Dental does not have any pending disciplinary cases with the Maine Board of Dental Practice. Dr. Gillins is named as one of three defendants in a Cumberland County equitable relief civil case filed by TD Bank in June.
“It’s just financial considerations and a bunch of things beyond our control that made a perfect storm,” Dr. Gillins said to the publication.
The practice has about 2,000 patients, which will be referred to other providers in the area, the report said.
