Maryland oral surgeon found guilty in death of girlfriend, former employee

A Maryland oral surgeon was recently found guilty of second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter for the death of this girlfriend, CBS Austin reported Aug. 25.

James Ryan, DDS, supplied controlled substances from his office to his girlfriend, Sarah Harris, who was also a past patient and employee of Dr. Ryan’s office. Ms. Harris was found dead in her and Ryan’s home in January 2022. A medical examiner determined her cause of death was intoxication of ketamine, propofol and diazepam.

Dr. Ryan was also found guilty of possession with intent to distribute midazolam as well as distribution of ketamine and diazepam, according to the report. 

He faces up to 55 years in prison. A sentencing hearing has not yet been scheduled.
