Missouri university dental hygiene program gets $20K boost

The dental hygiene program at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin received a $20,000 teledentistry grant to expand oral health services offered to rural students and the elderly, KZRG reported Sept. 26.

The grant was awarded by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.

The main goal for the program is to be able to accept Medicaid payment, according to KZRG.

“The whole point is to be able to sustain the funding after the grant is completed … to be able to offer these services and be reimbursed for the cost of the product,” Jill Pyle, department chair of the dental hygiene program, told KZRG.
