While working at the Albany Stratton Veterans Affairs Medical Center in New York, Arthur Hanvey stole precious metals and noble alloys. He then sold them to a third-party refinery for a profit, according to a Nov. 2 news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
The metals were stolen between October 2017 and May 2021. They were intended to be recycled to be used to manufacture dental crowns, bridges and other prostheses.
Mr. Hanvey was ordered to pay $13,533.04 in restitution, which was paid at his sentencing, the release said.
When Mr. Hanvey pleaded guilty to the charge in June, he faced up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
