Buffalo, N.Y.-based Kaleida Health will close the Gundlah Dental Clinic in Olean, N.Y., over financial headwinds and workforce limitations.

Olean General Hospital’s Gundlah Dental Clinic, a part of Kaleida Health’s network, includes 10 operatories providing care for patients who have trouble accessing dental care, according to the hospital’s website.

A spokesperson said the closure is part of a $200 million strategic plan to strengthen the health network’s long-term sustainability and enhance patient care.

The clinic has faced ongoing financial performance challenges, workforce limitations and reimbursement pressures, incurring losses exceeding $800,000 over the last five years that have made its operations “no longer viable,” according to a statement shared with Becker’s.

“While this change is difficult, it allows us to focus our resources on sustaining and growing critical services for our community,” the spokesperson said in the statement. “These include the expansion of the OGH emergency department, the introduction of a Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program and continued enhancements to cancer care services locally in our communities.”

The health system plans to help patients transition care to other providers, the spokesperson said.

Olean General Hospital’s dental clinic in Delevan, N.Y., will remain open.

At the Becker's 5th Annual Future of Dentistry Roundtable, taking place November 12–14 in Chicago, dental leaders and executives will gain insights into emerging technologies, practice growth strategies and the evolving landscape of dental care delivery, with a focus on innovation, patient experience and operational excellence.
