Ohio dentist retires, surrenders license after investigation

An Ohio dentist who was being investigated by the state after a patient’s death has decided to retire and surrender his dental license, WCMH reported June 12.

Grove City police responded to a call Feb. 13 at Grove City Dental and found a man unresponsive. The patient was taken to the hospital, but died three days later. The patient’s cause of death was ruled as being natural, caused by anoxic brain injury due to cardiac arrest and complications of hypertensive cardiovascular disease. 

No criminal charges have been filed against Dr. Schumann.

Dr. Schumann said in a statement that the patient’s death “weighed heavily” on him “mentally and emotionally.” 

Dr. Schumann said he will assist his employees with transitioning to other work and will help transfer patients to other providers.
