Stanley Meckler, DDS, of Pepper Pike, Ohio, has agreed to pay $500,000 to resolve allegations that he submitted claims to Medicaid for services that were ineligible for reimbursement.
The settlement is part of the DOJ’s 2026 National Health Care Fraud Takedown, which resulted in charges against 455 defendants involving more than $6.5 billion in false claims nationwide, according to a June 23 news release. Of those 455 defendants, 90 are doctors and other licensed medical professionals.
Dr. Meckler’s settlement stems from an investigation into John Ball, DDS, who was employed at Dr. Meckler’s practice in Parma, Ohio. Investigators found that Dr. Ball had been excluded from the Medicaid program for defaulting on a federal loan. During the period of his exclusion, Dr. Meckler allegedly billed Ohio Medicaid for services Dr. Ball provided by listing himself as the rendering provider.
Dr. Meckler sold the practice in 2021, at which point the new owner discovered Dr. Ball’s excluded status.
