Eugene-based Lane Community College officials have proposed closing one of their dental clinics to help balance its budget, Lookout Eugene-Springfield reported March 20.
Six notes:
1. College administrators proposed $4.2 million in cutbacks for the next school year, which would include staff reductions and program cuts.
2. The cuts are part of the college’s three-year plan to trim about $9 million in costs.
3. The plan includes $1 million in service cuts, including the closure of the Willamette Restorative Dental Clinic.
4. The clinic’s closure is estimated to save the college $320,000.
5. A separate student dental clinic on the college’s main campus, which offers free and reduced-fee services, would remain open.
6. The college’s education board will vote on the plan March 31.
