The dental industry is mourning the loss of Rolf Behrents, DDS, PhD, who passed away April 24.
Dr. Behrents was a leader in orthodontics, publishing more than 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals and educating more than 400 residents during his career.
Dr. Behrents served as editor-in-chief of the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics from 2014 to 2025. He also helped create the AJO-DO Clinical Companion, which launched in 2021. Additionally, he was a member of the American Association of Orthodontists Board of Trustees, according to an April 29 news release.
During his time as an education from 1978 to 2018, Dr. Behrents held chair positions at several dental schools, including the University of Tennessee and Case Western Reserve University.
Dr. Behrents is the recipient of the AAO’s 2026 Lifetime Achievement Award in Orthodontic Research.
