Upper Dublin Family Dentistry in Willow Grove,  Pa., recently experienced a data breach affecting 5,000 individuals.

On May 13, the practice discovered that an unauthorized party gained access to its computer systems and deployed malicious software to encrypt its data. The practice was able to contain the threat and restore its systems without making a ransom payment with the help of a cybersecurity and forensic firm.

An investigation determined that certain patient data may have been accessed or viewed by the unauthorized party, including names, dates of birth, home addresses, phone numbers and dental records. The practice said in a notice on its website that there is no evidence at this time that any of the affected information has been misused.
