Robert Fredrickson, DDS, of Loyalsock Township, Pa., recently retired after 55 years in dentistry, the Williamsport Sun-Gazette reported July 21.
Dr. Fredrickson practiced in the Williamsport area for several decades after completing dental school at Temple University in Philadelphia and serving as an Army dentist stationed in Germany. He purchased and renovated a former firehouse on Market Street in 1980, operating his practice there until 2023 before joining Ryan Linn, DMD, at another practice.
Over his career, Dr. Fredrickson earned fellowships and a mastership through the Academy of General Dentistry and was elected to the International College of Dentists. He also mentored 24 college students, most of whom went on to dental school.
Dr. Fredrickson reflected on changes in the field over the last five decades, citing advances in restorative materials and digital technology as among the most significant. He also noted that rising student debt has made it increasingly difficult for new graduates to enter solo practice.
His patients will be transitioned to his longtime hygienist, Elaine Confair, who will remain with Dr. Linn’s practice.
